How SecureShare Works

Let's break it down in plain English — no buzzwords, just privacy-focused file sharing that tells you exactly what the system does.

Everything is encrypted — before anything leaves your device

When you share a file using SecureShare, security starts right on your device.

  • Encryption happens in your browser (or app) using battle-tested cryptography
  • You pick who can access it with links and optional passphrases
  • The server stores encrypted files, not plaintext file contents

Keys and Accounts

SecureShare stores account state so you can come back to your files and shares without re-uploading everything.

  • We store your keys — but only after encrypting them client-side
  • We also store encrypted file metadata, sessions, and share records required to operate the service
  • Access your history and share across devices without compromising security

Limited Trial Sharing

You can create a protected share without an account, with usage limits enforced to keep the service running.

  • Just upload, enter a passphrase, and get a secure link
  • The file is encrypted locally with your passphrase before upload
  • The service stores the encrypted shared file, a passphrase hash, and share metadata such as expiry, size, and download counts

What The Service Can And Can't Access

SecureShare is designed to avoid storing raw account keys or raw passphrases, but it does keep operational metadata needed to run sharing and accounts.

  • Raw passphrases are not stored
  • Encrypted private keys and encrypted files are stored server-side
  • Share IDs, file sizes, expiry dates, download counts, and some IP-based rate-limit data are stored to operate the product
